Minh Thi - The Hostess of the "Seeds Have Fun with English" Group
Jan 19, 2022
Humans of VietSeeds welcomes a familiar face to Seeds from all three regions this week - Ms. Minh Thi. She is an English teacher who is also the hostess of the "Seeds have fun with English" group - the home of nearly 500 "residents" of VietSeeds. So what are we waiting for? Let's sit down, listen, and receive an infinite amount of cuteness from Ms. Thi right now!
Question 1: Can Thi introduce her main job and her work at VietSeeds?
Answer: My main job, and also the only one I've ever had, is teaching. I have small classes at ACE IELTS. At VietSeeds, I volunteer, mainly designing weekly English tests to assess the skills of students. In addition, I also organize some courses such as CV and cover letter writing skills, and foreign language reading skills for VietSeeds students. All of these things give me a lot of inspiration.
Question 2: How did you come to VietSeeds and why did you decide to stick with VietSeeds until now?
Answer: The connection with VietSeeds started a long time ago. I remember back in 2017 (not sure anymore because it's been so long), I attended an MBA study abroad workshop. There, I accidentally heard Ms. Vu (one of the guests of the workshop) share about her application journey, and Ms. Vu also "hinted" about VietSeeds - the organization that she co-founded with 3 other friends of hers. At that time, I found it interesting, so I went home to find out more and "bonded" with VietSeeds until today (laughs).
Question 3: In a post of yours in the "Seeds have fun with English" group back in 2018, you shared that: "It's really simple and easy to live with the imperfections of yourself." Has that thought changed at this point and why?
Answer: It's been 4 years since I said that, and I still think it's true. I'll divide it into 2 ideas for easy understanding. First, most people feel that they are not perfect, or in other words, they still have many shortcomings. Second, can we easily live with those weaknesses? I often observe that we tend to feel anxious and confused when we see that we are not "good enough". So how to make our mind feel more relaxed, to be able to live with "ourselves". That is to accept that those weaknesses are obvious. Or humorously, according to my teacher, it's "if you already know for sure that you're single, you won't be afraid of being single anymore" (laugh).
Question 4: Did you encounter any difficulties in the process of designing English tests for VietSeeds students?
Answer: The difficulties are countless, dear. But the most difficult thing is probably checking spelling (laughs). The test question has a spelling error, the person who makes the question will be ashamed.
Question 5: Is there one thing you want to say to VietSeeds right now?
Answer: I feel proud to be a small part of this big team. I am also very happy to witness the increasingly clear and professional development of VietSeeds over the years. So VietSeeds has passed the 10-year milestone, I believe that the road ahead will be even more brilliant. Finally, thank you VietSeeds for being born so that I can connect with young and ambitious people all over Vietnam, to work with many great colleagues, and to contribute a part of my strength to creating and spreading good values to the community.
