[HCM] TRAINING “CRITICAL THINKING”
May 12, 2024
On May 12th, students from F12 generation in Ho Chi Minh City delightedly participated in a training session on the topic of “Critical Thinking” led by Ms. Tran Le Quynh Nga - Project Manager of VietSeeds and Action Learning Coach from WIAL Vietnam.
Critical thinking is a fundamental and crucial skill in the context of an unstable, complex, and vague society. Through activities built on interesting and realistic situations such as the Vietnamese folk tale "The fortune-teller predicts the Elephant", the training session provided students with necessary insights into critical thinking in daily life as well as steps to consider when developing critical thinking skills for themselves.
With the R-E-D model introduced by Ms. Nga, the students got to the bottom of the sequence to follow when engaging in critical thinking : Recognize Assumptions, Evaluate Arguments, and finally Draw Conclusions. "Critical thinking is the ability to use knowledge and evidence to identify, analyze, and solve problems systematically rather than relying on intuition or instinct." - this is the basic concept that students had the opportunity to explore after the session.
Moreover, asking questions in the right way is also a key to effective critical thinking. Identifying the purpose, selecting the type of query and keywords to form a complete and relevant question, as well as remembering the KISS principle in questioning, are the keys to successfully receiving corresponding answers to help solve problems.
Hopefully after this training session, the students have gained useful lessons to enhance their critical thinking skills - an important and necessary competence in studying and work, as well as in the current projects of their groups, contributing to achieving worthy results. VietSeeds would like to express sincere gratitude to Ms. Nga and her companionship in this topic.
