SUMMARY OF “OLD BATTERY RESCUE PROJECT - GREEN PUZZLE”
Apr 22, 2023

Recognizing the environmental and human health hazards posed by old batteries, the Green Puzzle project - Rescuing old batteries was initiated. This community project was implemented by 12 VietSeeds students from the F9 and F10 generations in Ho Chi Minh City. Through community-focused activities, students had the opportunity to apply creative ideas in practice and embody the Pay It Forward spirit - Repay and pass it on, which is a cherished tradition of the VietSeeds community.
Acting as an intermediary connecting those with old batteries and facilities for battery processing, the project aimed to recover used batteries in Ho Chi Minh City. This effort aimed to raise awareness among the public about the harmful effects of old batteries on the environment, with the ultimate goal of protecting the living environment around us.
After a period of active implementation, the Green Puzzle project achieved impressive results:
- 5000 batteries were successfully recovered.
- Established partnerships for battery disposal with the reputable environmental company A Chau Environmental Company.
- Set up a system of 17 battery collection stations, including organizations, businesses, and universities in Ho Chi Minh City.
- Reached over 15,000 people through communication efforts to enhance awareness of the dangers and proper handling of old batteries.
- Featured in three major media channels, including HTV, Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper, and VOV Traffic radio.
Since its establishment, Green Puzzle has contributed to raising awareness of the serious hazards of battery waste and providing solutions for individuals, households, organizations, and businesses in Ho Chi Minh City and even in distant provinces. Many residents in Ho Chi Minh City proactively contacted Green Puzzle to send batteries directly or through designated collection stations. Moreover, people from northern provinces such as Bac Ninh and Hai Phong also contacted and sent batteries to the project. In addition, the project has been honored to receive proactive collaboration inquiries from various organizations and businesses, including Shopee, Nkid Group, Kohnan Japan Supermarket Chain, and Van Lang University.
Currently, the project has been handed over to the new generation of VietSeeds students, who will continue to contribute actively to the issue of rescuing old batteries and environmental protection.
