[HCM] TRAINING "LEARNING HOW TO LEARN"

On December 23, 2023, the second training session of the RISE program took place with the theme "Learning How to Learn," accompanied and led by Ms. Tran Le Quynh Nga, an Action Learning Coach and this year's Project Manager for RISE.

Learning holds significant importance in everyone's life, representing a lifelong journey. In addition to formal education, continuous self-improvement is necessary to become a better version of oneself. However, the concept of self-learning and effective methods for it pose a significant question explored collectively by RISE participants in this training session.

The discussion on learning should ideally commence with building confidence in our ability to learn. If one feels inadequate, it is only temporary. Subsequently, participants were encouraged to allocate time, organize resources needed for learning, and finally, engage in the learning process. Many people, however, make the mistake of diving straight into learning without considering the importance of confidence and self-regulation to overcome unnecessary obstacles in the learning journey.

Additionally, during this training session, participants delved into the human learning pyramid, exploring various levels at which individuals retain knowledge. Emphasis was placed on teaching others what one has learned as a method to precisely assess one's knowledge, identify gaps, and actively seek additional information to improve and fill those gaps.

RISE participants were also guided in applying the SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) to grasp essential knowledge and the Cornell note-taking method to understand, capture, and efficiently remember new information. Throughout this learning journey, seeking the companionship and support of a mentor played a crucial role. An appropriate mentor not only inspires a passion for learning but also helps identify shortcomings, provides advice, and encourages participants to achieve their learning goals faster.

The self-learning process will inevitably encounter moments of hesitation and procrastination, so having clear learning goals and detailed plans is essential. It is hoped that each RISER has gained additional valuable insights into the learning process and is prepared for their continuous learning journey.
